Going Solo… I mean solar

Today we picked up the final addition to our Easter camping kit. Our battery lasts around 24 hours on a single charge (which we tested a few weekends back at Murphy’s Creek) with the Waeco running the whole time. That’s great for a weekend away, but at Easter we have 4 days of camping fun planned.

Steve’s Dad gave us a second battery which would see us halfway through Easter fully powered but not quite enough. Enter the Hard Korr solar blanket. At just 4.5 kg and super compact this blanket gives us 150kw of charging power, enough (we hope) to get both batteries back to full in a single day of Queensland sun. Fingers crossed we have a fine and sunny Easter.

We picked up the Hard Korr at Snowies for $549. A little pricey but the only one cheaper was an Adventure King model and the 4wdsupastore was all out until after Easter. The Adventure Kings model was only 120kw but half the price at $249.  The Hard Korr comes with a power control panel on the back and a digital battery power gauge to keep an eye on charging. I’m not sure we would have got that with the Adventure Kings model.

Stay tuned for a review after our Easter camping trip on the Hard Korr solar blanket and we will let you know how it goes.

We are now 100% self sufficient and ready to hit the road at Easter.
