For Damon’s big 40th we had the experience of a life time. A helicopter tour over the snow covered Rocky Mountains with Alpine Helicopters. This was by far the most amazing experience of our lives. Alpine Helicopters is based in Canmore which is about 25 minutes from Banff heading back towards Calgary. They have a range of tours and we chose the Marvel Pass tour which is a 40 minute tour which stops on a snow covered divide in the mountains.
The views are absolutely breath taking and the stop is just spectacular. Our pilot was fantastic telling us about the area we were flying over. With our headsets on we didn’t really talk to him much as we were both taken back by the experience.
Weaving in and out of the mountains we flew right beside snow covered mountain faces, over glaciers and across the frozen lakes and rivers. We stopped at Marvel Pass for about 15 minutes to wander around in the snow with the mountains all around us. The snow on the mountain was about 4 feet deep and every few steps we feel down in the snow so the pilot gave us some snow shoes he had in the back of the chopper which we strapped to our feet and walked around.
If you are ever in Banff and want the experience of a life time we highly recommend this tour – you won’t regret it!
Because we booked this tour with 1 days notice Alpine Helicopters couldn’t pick us up from the hotel, so we got a Taxi each way. A taxi from Banff to Canmore costs around $50 each way.
